Adobe Real-Time Customer Data Platform (CDP) Pricing and Licensing: What Procurement Should Ask

By Art Kukharenko · Published · Updated

Adobe Real-Time Customer Data Platform (CDP) has no public price list. Adobe says the price of each of its three editions, B2C, B2B and B2P, is dictated by profile volume, and every edition is "Get pricing" only (page checked 17 October 2026) 1. One licensing consultancy estimates $300,000 to $2.5 million a year, but it states no method 2. Add-ons such as Healthcare Shield and data-volume packs sit on top of the profile count.

Who this is for: buyers who must budget, benchmark or negotiate Adobe Real-Time CDP without a published rate card. You will get the edition differences, what Adobe counts as a profile, a negotiation checklist and a comparison with credit, MTU and flat-licence models. More pricing guides sit in the guides hub; for the wider market see the CDP pricing explainer.

How Adobe prices Real-Time CDP

Adobe's pricing page lists three editions and one pricing factor, profile volume: "Pricing is determined by the amount of profiles that need to be managed", where profiles are "stitched from known and pseudonymous data sources" 1. There is no dollar figure, tier table or calculator; each edition links to a sales conversation.

A common mix-up deserves a flag. The figure "$240 per 1,000 profiles" circulates in round-ups as if it were Adobe's. It is Salesforce's published list price for Data 360 Profiles, not Adobe's 3. Adobe publishes no per-profile rate, so any per-profile number attributed to Adobe is an estimate or a mistake.

The three editions: B2C, B2B and B2P

Adobe documentation says a company chooses one of the three editions when purchasing, and that each comes in a Prime and an Ultimate tier 4. The pricing page's feature matrix shows what differs 1.

EditionBuilt forWhat it adds beyond the shared base
B2CBrands personalising for consumersPerson profiles, person identity graph, profile segmentation and activation
B2BBrands working with leads and accountsAccount and opportunity profiles, account identity graph, lead-to-account matching, predictive lead and account scoring
B2PBrands with both consumer and business customersB2C and B2B capabilities plus hybrid person profiles that combine both

All three share tag management, streaming data collection, edge-based event forwarding, source and activation connectors, sandboxes, API access, consent and compliance management, and governance controls 1. The editions are not interchangeable, so decide before the first quote and ask what moving between them requires. Adobe's documentation links separate product descriptions for each edition's Prime and Ultimate functionality, which are worth attaching to the order form 4.

What "profile" means for billing

The pricing page speaks of "profiles"; Adobe's licensing documentation uses a defined entitlement metric called Addressable Audience 56.

  • Addressable Audience is the set of person profiles in Real-Time Customer Profile that your organisation is entitled to engage, including identifiable and pseudonymous profiles, calculated with the default deterministic identity graph 5.
  • Enabling a dataset for Profile adds to the count. Pseudonymous profile expirations reduce it. Identity graphs are not counted directly, but identity splitting can create extra pseudonymous profiles 6.
  • Total Data Volume equals Addressable Audience multiplied by average profile richness, and covers data in the Profile Store only, not data lake storage; Adobe marks the average-richness input as deprecated 5. A "Profile Richness" add-on pack raises authorised volume by 25 KB per profile per pack 5.
  • Other metrics include data lake storage, data export size, audience activation size and total data egress; streaming segmentation is licensed in packs 5.
  • Exceeding entitlements is possible. Adobe's documentation says so and recommends the license usage dashboard, but it does not describe penalties; those live in your contract 6.

The practical effect: a billable profile is not only a known customer. Pseudonymous profiles count toward the audience, heavy behavioural data raises volume, and your identity-graph settings change the count.

Add-ons and Healthcare Shield

Beyond the packs above, healthcare buyers will meet Healthcare Shield. Adobe describes it as an Adobe Experience Platform add-on, for applications built on that platform, designed to make them HIPAA ready and to help meet HIPAA requirements for processing and using protected health information 7. It targets payors, providers and life sciences companies. Adobe's Real-Time CDP pricing page does not list it 1.

Any HIPAA add-on needs the same scrutiny as a plan tier: which applications it covers, whether the BAA names them, and what responsibilities remain yours. See the BAA checklist for martech vendors and the HIPAA-compliant customer data platform guide.

Typical annual bands: estimates, not Adobe prices

Atonement Licensing, a firm that sells Adobe negotiation services, gives "$300K–$2.5M per year" as a representative 2026 band for Real-Time CDP, with profile count and audiences as the cost drivers 2. Treat it with caution:

  • It is the author's estimate, with no methodology or data sources stated.
  • The page's byline says "Updated Nov 2022" while its title and table say 2026, so its date is unclear.
  • An eight-fold spread between low and high means it cannot be used for budgeting by itself.

Category-level cost studies are broader still. Stable Kernel's August 2026 analysis says CDP total cost of ownership over three years "commonly ranges from" several hundred thousand to several million dollars, with illustrative scenarios of about $1.1 million, $2.5 million and $3 million 8. Those are three-year totals for a whole programme, not Adobe licence prices. Use any band as a sanity check on a quote, never as the quote.

What to ask in negotiation

  1. Define the metric in the order form. Is it Addressable Audience? Does it include pseudonymous profiles, and how are they expired?
  2. Baseline with the license usage dashboard before signing, using your real data and identity-graph configuration, not a sales estimate.
  3. Get the true-up terms. What happens if you exceed entitlements: grace, overage rate, forced upgrade?
  4. Price the packs. Ask for the cost of Profile Richness packs and streaming segmentation packs at 1.5 times forecast volume.
  5. Choose the edition deliberately. B2C, B2B or B2P, Prime or Ultimate; ask what migrating between them costs.
  6. Ask about data lake storage, export and egress. Are they bundled or metered, and at what threshold?
  7. Pin the ramp. Align committed profile counts to a realistic growth curve, with the right to reduce at renewal.
  8. Cap renewal increases and request price protection for the term.
  9. Clarify Healthcare Shield. Price, BAA scope and the applications covered.
  10. Plan the exit. Data export formats, retention after termination and change-of-control clauses. See vendor lock-in clauses.
  11. Compare in writing. Request the same scenario priced by two other vendors using the CDP RFP template.

The quote-by-profile model is predictable once signed and opaque before. The main risks are definitional (what counts as a profile) and growth-related (identity-graph changes that create pseudonymous profiles). A flat licence removes per-profile metering but moves infrastructure and operations to you, which suits teams with platform engineers and regulated data. See perpetual licence vs SaaS subscription. In Gartner's 2026 customer data platform Magic Quadrant, as reported by CX Today, Adobe is a Visionary 11; the position is a market view, not a price signal.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Adobe Real-Time CDP cost?

Adobe does not publish a price. Its pricing page says price depends on profile volume and offers "Get pricing" for each edition 1. A consultancy estimates $300,000 to $2.5 million a year, without a stated method 2. Your number depends on profiles, packs, add-ons and negotiation.

Does Adobe publish Real-Time CDP pricing?

No. The page names three editions, B2C, B2B and B2P, and one pricing factor, profile volume, but no dollar amounts 1. Buyers must request a quote. Treat any per-profile price you find online as an estimate and check which vendor it belongs to.

Is Adobe CDP priced at $240 per 1,000 profiles?

No. The $240 per 1,000 profiles per year figure is Salesforce's list price for Data 360 Profiles 3. Adobe publishes no per-profile rate. The confusion is common in third-party comparisons, so check the vendor's own pricing page before using a number.

What counts as a profile in Adobe Real-Time CDP?

Adobe's licensing metric is Addressable Audience: person profiles you are entitled to engage, including identifiable and pseudonymous ones 5. Enabling datasets for Profile adds to the count, expirations reduce it, and identity splitting can create extra pseudonymous profiles 6. Confirm the definition in your order form.

What is Adobe Healthcare Shield?

Adobe describes Healthcare Shield as an Adobe Experience Platform add-on designed to make platform-based applications HIPAA ready and to meet HIPAA requirements for processing protected health information 7. Ask Adobe for the BAA, the covered applications and the price. This is general information, not legal advice.

How does Adobe pricing compare with Salesforce or Segment?

Adobe is quote-only by profile volume. Salesforce Data 360 publishes Flex Credits at $500 per 100,000 and Profiles at $240 or $420 per 1,000 per year 3. Twilio Segment publishes Team-plan MTU prices but quotes Business 9. Compare them on the same scenario, with the definitions in writing.
