mParticle After the Rokt Acquisition: What Changes and the Alternatives

By Art Kukharenko · Published · Updated

mParticle, a customer data platform (CDP), joined Rokt in 2025 in a deal that mParticle's own announcement values at US$300 million; the company now trades as mParticle by Rokt 2. It was not included in Gartner's 2026 CDP Magic Quadrant. We found no published pricing change and no roadmap beyond a pledge to double CDP investment, so check contracts, data location, roadmap and pricing before renewal (checked 17 October 2026) 137.

Who this is for: mParticle customers nearing renewal and teams shortlisting event-based platforms. You will get verified facts, open questions, a due-diligence checklist and alternatives by deployment model. More comparisons are in the guides hub.

What happened: the Rokt deal

Rokt, an ecommerce technology company, announced a "strategic US$300 million merger" with mParticle, which mParticle published on its own site 1. Facts from that announcement:

mParticle calls it a merger; it is commonly described as an acquisition. The legal structure matters in contracts, where assignment and change-of-control clauses turn on it.

Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant

mParticle does not appear in Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant for customer data platforms. CX Today reports that Gartner dropped four vendors, ActionIQ, Redpoint Global, mParticle and Zeta Global, for failing updated inclusion criteria covering CDP software customers and contract value 7. Hightouch's pricing page cites the report's date as 26 January 2026 8.

Dropping out of a quadrant reflects Gartner's inclusion thresholds, not a product-quality verdict. It is still a visibility signal for buyers who use analyst reports in vendor reviews.

What has been said about roadmap and pricing

On the roadmap, the only public commitment we found is the investment pledge above 1. Rokt's current product page describes Rokt mParticle as a real-time CDP with a hybrid design that pairs real-time infrastructure with warehouse-native, composable architecture, and emphasises identity resolution, audiences and advertising outcomes 5. Rokt's press page (checked 17 October 2026) lists one mParticle item, an August 2026 award, and no roadmap or pricing statements 6.

On pricing, mParticle publishes no prices. Its pricing page has no plans or metering details, only a "Request pricing" route 3. We found no public statement about pricing changes since the merger. Absence of an announcement is not evidence of stability: ask for the current model and renewal terms in writing.

On hosting and compliance, mParticle's security page says client data is "logically and physically separated in distinct AWS clusters" and lists GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2. It names no regions, HIPAA terms or sub-processors, and points to a Trust Center 4.

What could change for customers

These are risks to test, not predictions:

  • Product focus. Rokt's page gives prominent space to advertising and commerce-media outcomes 5. Confirm which parts of the roadmap serve CDP customers who do not buy Rokt services.
  • Data-use boundaries. Rokt is an advertising-adjacent business. Ask for contractual limits on using your customer data for Rokt products.
  • Contract assignment and sub-processors. A merger can change the legal entity, support teams and sub-processors handling your data.
  • Pricing and packaging. Renewal is the usual point where a model is re-based.

mParticle alternatives by deployment model

mParticle is an event-based platform in the same family as Twilio Segment. Group alternatives by who runs the system and how the meter works. Facts below come from vendors' own pages, checked 17 October 2026.

Prices and licences are detailed in Twilio Segment pricing and alternatives and open-source customer data platforms compared. For the trade-offs between composable, packaged and private models, see composable vs packaged vs private. Market pricing models are in the CDP pricing explainer.

Licences and migration effort

Source-available is not open source: RudderStack's server licence forbids offering it as a managed service, and Snowplow's requires a commercial agreement for production on live data 13. Moving off any event platform means re-implementing collection, identity rules, audiences and destination mappings, so budget the work first. The 90-day migration plan lists the sequence.

When staying with mParticle is reasonable

If your contract is clear on assignment, data use and exit, your data location is acceptable and you already buy Rokt services, the combined offer may be the lowest-friction path. The announcement's claim that joint clients saw "up to 50% better" outcomes is a vendor claim 1; ask for references in your sector.

Frequently asked questions

Did Rokt acquire mParticle?

In effect, yes. mParticle's own announcement describes a strategic US$300 million merger with Rokt, and the combined business is called mParticle by Rokt 1. It is commonly described as an acquisition. The announcement page is undated, so confirm the date in the source you rely on.

How much did Rokt pay for mParticle?

mParticle's announcement values the merger at US$300 million 1. It does not split the figure into cash and stock, and we found no Rokt statement on terms. Treat it as the company-reported headline value of the deal, not an audited purchase price.

What is happening to mParticle's roadmap?

The announcement says the merger doubles total investment in the CDP to deliver on mParticle's product roadmap 1. Rokt's current product page stresses real-time identity, audiences and advertising outcomes 5. No detailed public roadmap exists. Ask for a written roadmap for the features you use.

Has mParticle pricing changed since the Rokt merger?

We found no public statement about pricing changes. mParticle publishes no price list and directs buyers to "Request pricing" 3. Absence of an announcement proves nothing either way, so before renewing, ask your account team for the metering definition, overage terms and renewal cap in writing.

Why was mParticle left out of Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant?

CX Today reports that Gartner dropped mParticle, ActionIQ, Redpoint Global and Zeta Global for not meeting updated inclusion criteria on customers and contract value 7. It is not a verdict on product quality; weigh it alongside references and a proof of concept.

What are the best mParticle alternatives for regulated teams?

It depends on whether the issue is the vendor or the model. For a similar SaaS model, shortlist Twilio Segment, Tealium, Amperity or BlueConic; for warehouse-centred teams, Hightouch or Fivetran Activations; for data that must stay in your boundary, a private deployment such as Meiro or PrivyCDP. Verify BAA and residency terms for each. This is general information, not legal advice.
